Nobody can do without T-Shirts

T-Shirts have become modern and popular in the 1980s in Europe. During the 1990s, T shirts have become an integral part of our wardrobe, as, worn with the right trousers, suits or skirts, a T shirt can be perfect for any occasion – in our casual lives as well as in business life. Today, a T-shirt is one of the most popular and comfortable pieces of clothes. People of any age love to wear T shirts. T-shirts do not face any restrictions in terms of design and style. There are more elegant blank T shirts made of silk or cotton for business life and suits; there are designer t shirts and printed shirts made of different kinds of fabrics and decorated with embroidery and sequins; and, there are cotton shirts and retro shirts for the younger generation, for kids and teenagers which are richly printed. T shirts and sweatshirts for this target group often contain a statement which is representative for the wear’s attitudes.

The word T-Shirt comes from the English word shirt. A t shirt is kind of a top with short sleeves, mostly with a v neck or a crew neck, with neither collar nor buttons. Although the T-Shirt is shaped as a “T“, its name was created differently. During World War II, the American Navy was looking for alternatives for its soldiers’ training shirts made of wool as they wanted to replace the heavy material. There is a further hint for the creation of the word T-shirt in Great Britain: The English royals were having their servants wear a short sleeved linen shirt when serving tea, as tannic acid of the black tea was creating tenacious stains on shirts with long sleeves. However, this clothing rule was only accepted for tea time and this is why the word T-shirt could have originated: Tea-Shirt.

T-Shirts are preferably made of cotton. Uni coloured shirts are dyed with certain colours – either on a chemical or natural basis. Classic colours of t-shirts are still white, black and grey.
