Pullovers to keep you warm

Pullovers are created out of the English words pull and over. In German, the word pullover has existed since 1817. A pullover belongs to fashionable outerwear. Typically, a pullover has long sleeves and is knitted of wool. It can have a v neck or a crew neck and usually has no buttons and no collar. Pullovers are available in an extensive range of colours and designs. When it comes to a pullover’s shape, the form of the neck has become variable. Even turtleneck has become very popular. However, it can also be made of any fibers – natural materials such as cotton and wool or artificial material such as nylon. Also polyacrylics can be used in the manufacturing of pullovers. When mixing polyacrylics with wool, shirts and sweaters are getting more inherently stable. Today, a sweatshirt is more popular with teenagers and young adults than sweaters knitted of wool.

Besides the T-shirt, pullovers are the most popular and comfortable pieces of clothes. People of any age love to wear them. Today, pullovers do not face hardly any restriction in terms of design and style. There are more elegant blank, thin silk or cotton pullovers for suits; there are designer pullovers with prints or shirts with sequins.

When it comes to sports, for example golf pullovers, sweaters are often used as windbreakers or as waterproof pullovers which can replace a jacket, for example when sailing. Fleece pullovers are also very popular in today’s sporting community.

Wool pullovers vary in the kind of wool used for knitting. There are for example cashmere sweaters or sweatshirts made of new wool. New wool is wool which directly comes form living animals. Cashmere wool is a luxury fabric, and comes form the cashmere goat. This kind of wool does not come from shearing, but from carefully combing. Cashmere is very soft, light and warming, but also rare and therefore very expensive.
Many of the women’s and men’s sweaters, which are offered in German retail stores, are not produced within Germany, but are imported from inside and outside Europe, for example from Hong Kong, China, India or Taiwan.
