After World War II, the jeans literally conquered the European fashion market, and special jeans shops were founded. In 1948, jeans were for the first time produced in Europe. The classic jeans is made of indigo denim, has five pockets and a quilting seam. It usually has between five and seven belt loops and can be opened and closed by zippers. Denim is a robust, blue fabric made of cotton. Cotton is the most common material when manufacturing jeans. The name denim comes from the French town Nimes. In French, „De Nimes“ means „from Nimes“. Indigo is a dark blue dyestuff, which can today be manufactured chemically. However, the colour indigo was in former times known in Egypt and China – almost 4500 years ago. It was a natural colour which was made of the leaves of the indigo plant.
